Creek Big Band Website

WHAT IS MUSIC? Here is one of the most profound statements about the value of music that I have encountered. (Frank DeMiero at Vocal Summit XV, Powell River, B C) CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD Statement of Karl Paulnack of the Boston Conservatory of Music.

THE CREEK BIG BAND

The Creek Big Band is made up of unpaid volunteer musicians who contribute their time and talent for the benefit of Sunshine Coast music students and audiences.

The money earned from their paid performances goes toward scholarships for Sunshine Coast students going on to further music studies, and toward miscellaneous band expenses.

The Creek Big Band is always looking for additional gigs, and encourages you to book the band for your next dance, party, or other extravaganza for which you wish to have some great swing, jazz, and dance music.

For information, please call

Val Anderson at 604 885-6756 or

Karin Tigert at 604 885-7906

We rehearse on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. During the school year we meet at Chatelech Band Room, and in the off season, and some other occasions, we meet in Brian Airth's garage . . .

Our Conductor & Soloist, Graham Ord

Our annual dues are $25 per person. We are governed by a Board of Directors, who are elected at the Annual General Meeting, usually in late September.

Our membership is open to interested musicians who have a basic understanding of their instruments, and of the Big Band genre. The current band is made up of players from all walks of life. We have music teachers, retired music teachers, professional musicians, contractors, a dentist, a forester, a retired fireman, etc. We get along exceptionally well, and enjoy our playing very much. As players come and go, the membership is constantly changing--but the core of players is fairly constant.

The Creek Big Band is available for hire, but the players are nearly all volunteers. The exception is our director, who is paid for his leadership and expertise, and the occasional substitute that we need to hire to replace member(s) who may not be available for a particular performance. The money that is earned at performances is used to purchase equipment and music for the band, and to offer bursaries to graduating students who are going on in music at a post secondary institution. Qualified students can apply to any member of the band for consideration of these bursaries. We like to give at least 2 each year, and try to make them available to students throughout the Sunshine Coast area.
